A bird takes flight.
Ibis begins near Mendocino in a small workshop, named for a bird because lightness and flight felt exactly right for a bicycle.

Established 1981 · Santa Cruz, California
Ibis grew from a funky Mendocino workshop into a Santa Cruz mountain-bike original—still independent, still employee-owned, and still more interested in a brilliant ride than behaving like a big corporation.
The landscape is part of the recipe: steep coastal climbs, redwood shade, loose corners and fast descents that reward a bike with efficiency, balance and a mischievous streak. Ibis bikes feel at home there because that is where the ideas are drawn, tested and refined.

45 years of doing it differently
On April Fools’ Day 1981, founder Scot Nicol opened Ibis without much of a plan beyond making bicycles he wanted to ride. Four and a half decades later, that independent instinct still defines the company.

TIG-welded steel, oversized chromoly, titanium and unconventional forms arrive early—evidence of a brand unwilling to wait for consensus.
Ibis brings its most famous name into full-suspension carbon, pairing sculpted design with bikes built to be ridden hard.
The owners work inside the company, keeping decisions close to engineering, design, riders and the trails around Santa Cruz.
Innovation with dirt on it
A clever idea only matters when the trail feels better.
Ibis has spent decades moving between materials, manufacturing methods and suspension ideas without losing sight of a simple test: does the bike climb eagerly, descend confidently and make the rider want one more lap?
Efficient under power, active when the terrain turns rough and tuned to deliver the traction that makes technical climbs—and fast exits—feel possible.
Light, strong and carefully shaped frames evolved through years of experimentation, including in-house development and manufacturing work in Santa Cruz.
Balanced reach, confident front ends and thoughtful sizing create speed without turning every trail bike into a one-purpose machine.
Low weight, useful clearances, practical service access and component choices informed by people who ride and wrench their own bikes.
The Ibis flock
Ibis inspires the kind of loyalty usually reserved for favorite bands, secret trails and neighborhood burrito spots.
Part of that following comes from the bikes: Ripley riders who swear they have found the perfect trail bike, Ripmo owners who keep discovering bigger lines, and longtime fans who can identify a classic Mojo from across a parking lot. The rest comes from a brand that has always sounded human—smart, funny, slightly irreverent and genuinely grateful to the people who ride its machines.
The flock wears many colors
From Huckleberry Purple to Gold Rush, Ibis color has always carried the same confidence as the ride.
